UNILAG–Nord Auto Assembly Plant - From Lecture Hall to Assembly Line
The collaboration began with a Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2022, establishing the UNILAG-Nord Auto Assembly Plant on campus. The facility includes a full assembly line, research and development centre, showroom, and after-sales workshop. Students now gain real-world experience in automotive engineering, manufacturing, and business operations—a rare opportunity in African higher education.
Made in Nigeria Car, Driven by Nigerians
On October 1, 2025, UNILAG handed over a locally assembled Nord vehicle to Jumoke Oduwole, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment—herself an alumna of UNILAG’s Faculty of Law. This symbolic gesture underscores the university’s commitment to the “Nigeria-first” initiative and its role in scaling indigenous innovation across the continent.
Why It Matters:
UNILAG’s auto plant is more than a technical feat—it’s a blueprint for how African universities can bridge the gap between academia and industry. By integrating manufacturing into the curriculum, UNILAG is preparing students for the future of work, boosting Nigeria’s industrial capacity, and inspiring other institutions to follow suit. This is not just auto manufac — it is rennaisance.
